semester of 1957-58. It was moved by Regent Swanson, seconded by Regent Elliot, motion put to vote and carried that the Chancellor's reccomendation be approved.

There being no further business, the Board adjourned.

Special Meeting December 16, 1957

Lincoln, Nebraska December 16, 1957

The Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska met on this day for a special meeting at 2:00 o'clock P.M. in the Adminstration Building on the city campus at Lincoln.

Regents present: B. N. Greenberg, President C. Y. Thompson Frank O. Poote J. G. Elliott C. E. Swanson J. L. Welsh

University officials present: Messrs. Clifford M. Hardin, Chancellor A. C. Breckenridge, Dean of Faculties John K. Selleck, Corporation Secretary Jospeh Soshnik, Asst. Corporation Secretary Carl A. Donaldson, Business Manager

Minutes approved The minutes of the proceedings of the Board at their meeting held November 23, 1957, were approved, copy of the same having been transmitted to the several members of the Board under its order of October 1, 1926.

From the Chancellor's office comes reports of resignation, new appointments, ad interim to the University staff, retirement and adjustments in work and salary for members of the several staffs, money being available for those puropses from former apportionment by the Board, the following action is taken.

Resignations approved It was moved by Regent Thompson, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, accepting recomendation of the Chancellor's office that the following resignations be approved:

RESIGNATIONS

Robert L. Schick, County Extension Agent at large, effective November 30, 1957.

Margaret C. Slattery, County Home Extension Agent, effective November 30, 1957.

Maxine F. Shell, Area Home Extension Agent, effective November 23, 1957.

Harold J. Foster, County Agricultural Extension Agent, effective December 31, 1957.

Harvie R. Richardson, Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent, effective December 31, 1957.

Joyce S. Patterson, Assistant Extension Editor, effective January 4, 1958.

New Appointments approved It was moved by the Regent Welsh, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, accepting recommendation of the Chancellor's office that the following new appointments be approved.

NEW APPOINTMENTS College of Agriculture Gertrude P. Weisskopf. Assistant Agricultural Economist, at $6400 per year effective December 1, 1957 to July 1, 1958; account 4767W, Project 577, Title II.

Clifford E. Domingo, Reasearch Associate in Agronomy, stationed at Scotts Bluff Experiment Station; employed by Agr. Research Service, U. S Department of Agriculture.

Vocational Homemaking Supervising Instructors, at $75.00 for the training period beginning February 1, 1958; Carol Dunker, Atkinson, Nebraska Mary James, Tecumseh, Nebraska Mrs. Delia McClurg, Wheeler County High School, Bassett, Nebraska Mrs. Janet Meyer Aurora, Nebraska Mrs. Faye Mitchell, Allen, Nebraska

College of Arts and Sciences Desmond M. S. Wheeler, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, at $5700 per year for the period February 1, 1958 to February 1, 1959; temporary replacement for Dr. N. H Cromwell who will be on leave.

College of Dentistry Karl W. Bruce, Instructor in Oral Pathology, effective December 1, 1957, without salary.

Harlan Louis Papenfuss, Instructor in Oral Pathology, effective December 1, 1957, wihtout salary.

Adjustments in Work and Salary Approved It was moved by the Regent Swanson, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, accepting recommendation of the Chancellor's office that the following adjustments in work and salary be approved:

ADJUSTMENTS IN WORK AND SALARY (Funds available) Interim appointments from Chancellor's Office

Comptroller Glen Sloan, from Accountant to Director of Accounting, and from $6000 per year to $6600 per year effective January 1, 1958; this promotion is part of an overall realignment of duties made necesssary by the reitrement of Mr. Backland.

College of Agriculture Catherine A. Ploerach, from Extension Assistant in Home Economics to County Home Extenison Agent in Gage County, and from $3800 per year to $4000 per year from January 1, 1958; has completed training period satisfactorily and will replace Joanne Wilson.

Roland P. Lengemeier, from Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent in Cuming Colfax to Colfax County, and from $4400 per year to $5000 per year effective December 16, 1957; in place of John Nebelsick.

Edwin J. Penas, from Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent at large to Platte County, and from $4300 to $4800 per year effective January 1, 1958; new position.

Elton R. Perry, reappointment as Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent in Gage County at $4400 per year effective January 2, 1958; in place of Dayle Williamson.

Extenison Division Charles V. Anderson, reappointment as Instructor in hearing therapy off-campus, from $4200 to $4500 per year effective December 1, 1957, account 2006X; he has been on military leave and is resuming his position with the University.

University Research Council Faculty Summer Research Fellowship, at $1000 for the period June 1, 1958 to September 1, 1958;

RETIREMENT A. L. Backlund, Assistant Comptroller, effective December 15, 1957, at $478.63 single life per year. Miss Merle Simpson, Assistant Instructor Emeritus in High School Correspondance, University Extension Division, effective January 1, 1958, at $233.75 per year, single life.

Commercial Arts Re-Named to "Business Teacher Education" From the office of the Dean of Teachers College, Dean P. E. Henzlik comes a recommendation that the department of Commercial Arts of Teachers College be re-named to read department of Business Teacher Education. This request is supported by the faculty of the Teachers Education.

It was moved by Regent Swanson, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, directing the department of Commercial Arts in the Teachers College be designated as department of Business Teacher Education.

Mr.Perry Rankin appeared before Board re sale of Sheldon Farms The president of the Board, Dr. Greenberg, introduced Mr. Perry Rankin, representative of Spitanogle Co., auctioneers and realtors of 12 West 23rd Street, Kearney, Nebraska, who desire to be appointed by the Board of Regents to act as agent for the Board in selling the remaining farms in the Frances Sheldon estate. Mr. Rankin made a statement in reference to the standing of his firm and their proposals for the sale of this property.

From the General Business Manager, Mr. Carl A. Donaldson, comes a report of offers to purchase three of the farms in the Frances Sheldon estate.

Offers to purchase three farms in Sheldon Estate Mr. Donaldson reports two individual appraisals have been made on these farms, appraisal No. 1 by Mr. Paul Fowler and Mr. Ralph Holstine of the First Trust Company, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Appraisal No. 2 by E. W. Johannesen of the Johannesen Agency of North Platte.

Special Meeting December 16, 1957

From Mr. Leo Peden comes an offer to purchase the East Half of the Southeast Quarter (E1/2SE1/4) of Section Thirteen (13) in Township Ten (10) North, Range Twenty-Five (25) West of the 6th P.M. in Dawson County, Nebraska; subject to any existing easement for irrigation lateral, and to established public roads, for the purchase price of $40,000.00. The appraisals made on this farm are as follows: First Trust Company, No. 1 Basic - $29,560.00 Market - $32,000.00

Johannesen Agency, No. 2 Basic - $31,000.00 Market - $32,000.00

Approve sale of farm to Mr. Leo Peden

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, directing the president and corporation secretary be authorized and directed in behalf of the Board of Regents to execute an Agreement to sell the following property in the Frances Sheldon estate to Mr. Leo Peden for the sum of $40,000.00:

East Half of the Southeast Quarter (E1/2SE1/4) of Section Thirteen (13) in Township Ten (10) North, Range Twenty-Five (25) West of the 6th P.M. in Dawson County, Nebraska, Subject to any existing easement for irrigation lateral, and to established public roads.

From Mr. Lloyd A. Bacon comes an offer to purchase the Northeast Quarter (NE1/4) of Section Seventeen (17) in Township Ten (10) North, Range Twenty-four (24) west of the 6th P.M. in Dawson County, Nebraska; subject to right-of-way conveyed to The Thirty Mile Canal Company for irrigation lateral and any existing easement not of record, for the purchase price of $78,000.00. Mr Donaldson reports two independent appraisals made on this farm as follows: First Trust Company, No.1 Basic - $61,320.00 Market - $60,000.00

Johannesen Agency, No. 2 Basic - $51,000.00 Market - $56,000.00

Approve sale of farm to Mr. Lloyd A. Bacon

It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, directing the president and corporation secretary be authoritized and directed in behalf of the Board of Regents to execute an agreement to sell the following property in the Frances Sheldon estate to Mr. Lloyd A. Bacon for the sum of $78,000.00:

Northeast Quarter (NE1/4) of Section Seventeen (17) in Township Ten (10) North, Range Twentyfour (24) West of the 6th P.M. in Dawson County, Nebraska, subject to right-of-way conveyed to The Thirty Mile Canal Company for irrigation lateral; and any existing easement not of record.

From Mr. Phillip Cler comes an offer to purchase the Northeast Quarter (NE1/4) of Section Thirty-one (31) in Township Eleven (11) North, Range Twenty-five (25) West of the 6th P. M. in Dawson County, Nebraska, subject to right-of-way conveyed to by deeds recorded in Book 75, Pages 54 and 55, and in Book 90, subject to any existing easements and to established public roads, for the purchase price of $64,000.00 Mr. Donaldson reports two independent appraisals made on this farm as follows:

First Trust Company, No. 1 Basic - $56,280.00 Market- $64,000.00

Johannesen Agency, No. 2 Basic - $47,200.00 Market - $60,000.00
