Special Meeting Spetmeber 20, 1957 to negotiate for the purchase of these three lots.

Business Manager authorized to negotiate for purchase It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Elliot motion put to vote and carried, directing Mr. Donaldson be authorized to negotiate for the purchase of the three lots at the northwest corner of 10th and W Streets and that further, he be instructed that in his negotiations he may offer not to exceed $19,500.00 for property.

There being no further business, the Board adjourned.

Special Meeting October 19, 1957 October 19, 1957 The Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska met on this day for a special meeting at 9:30 A.M. in the Administration building on the city campus at Lincoln.

Regents present: B. N. Greenberg, President C.Y. Thompson Frank O. Foote. J. G. Elliott C. E. Swanson J. L. Welsh

University officials present: Messrs. Clifford M. Mardin, Chancellor A. C. Breckenridge, Dean of Faculties John K. Selleck, Corporation Secretary Joseph Soshnik, Asst. Corporation Secretary

Minutes Approved The minutes of the proceedings of the Board at their meeting held September 30, 1957, were approved, copy of the same having been transmitted to the several members of the Board under its order of October 1, 1926.

From the Chancellor's office comes reports of resignations, new appointments, ad interim to the University staff, retirement, and adjusments in work and salary for those purposes from former apportionment by the Board, the following action is taken.

Resignations approved It was moved by the Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, accepting recommendation of the Chancellor's office that the following resignations be approved:

RESIGNATIONS

Diego Sagre, Assistant in Animal Pathology, effective July 31, 1955, had been on leave and did not return.

Charles W. Steinbaugh, Professor of Architecture, effective June, 1957.

L. John Martin, Assistant Professor of Journalism effective September 1,1957: to accept another position.

S.B.H. Rizvi, Research Associate in Chemistry, effective September 1, 1957.

Minnie Schaefer, Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine, effective September 21, 1957.

Wayne L. Potthoff, Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent, effective September 30, 1957.

Avis P. Scholder, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychistry, effective September 30, 1957.

Consuelo S. Graham, Assistant Librarian, College of Agriculture, effective October 12 , 1957.

Richard J. Gogan, County Agricultural Extension Agent, effective November 15, 1957.

Remzi Akyildiz, Assistant in Biochemistry, effective November 15, 1957.

College of Agriculture Mrs. H. Carolyn Whitesel, County Home Extension Agent in Kearney County, at $3900 per year from October 15, 1957; in piece of Alma Jorn.

College of Arts and Sciences Betty A. Joy, Teaching Assistant in Bacteriology, at $500 per year from October 1, 1957.

Extension Division Verlan Julian Hanson, part-time Instructor, University High School, at $200 per month from October 1, 1957, to May 31, 1957; in place of Hollis Chalquist, 4271-W.

Graduate College Alyce McCarrol Wilson, Assistant in Field Work Instruction, School of Social Work, without salary from September 1, 1957 to June, 1958.

College of Medicine Joseph Henry Gardner, Demonstrator (Anatomy), AMA Teaching, at $100 per month from September 1, 1957 to March 31, 1958, 1143-X

Mrs. Leila Epstein, Acting Chief Psychiatric Nurse, Neurology and Psychiatry, at $2550.00 per year from October 1, 1957; $2550 to be paid from Board of Control also.

Adjustments in Work and Salary Approved It was moved by Regent Welsh, seconnded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, accepting recommendation of the Chancellor's office that the following adjustments in work and salary be approved.

Thomas. J Craft, Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent, from $4000 to $4800 per year; completed training period and appointed in Dixon County.

Joyce C. Cranfill, Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent, from $4000 to $5000 per year; completed training period and appointed in Hamilton County.

Robert N. Gerdes, Assistant County Agricultural Extension Agent, from $4000 to $4300 per year; completed training period and appointed at large.

M. Wayne Hart, Supervisor of Duplicating and Distributing, from $4900 to $5200 per year from November 1, 1957; salary increased subsequent to six months probation period.

RETIREMENT

John Reisbig, Fireman, Buildings and Grounds, at $214.25 single life from September 1, 1957.

James E. Lawrence Deceased Sept. 16, 1957 Report is made of the death of James E. Lawrence, Professor of Journalism, part-time, whose death occured on September 16, 1957. It was moved by Regent Welsh, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, directing that the University payrolls be adjusted and the name of Mr. Lawrence be removed from the payrolls, effective September 30, 1957.

Request transfer of funds from Frank H. Woods Fellow ship Trust Fund to Woods Fellowships

It was moved by Regent Welsh, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, directing the University of Nebraska Foundation be requested to transfer to the Comptroller the sum of $20,000.00 from the Frank H. Woods Fellowhsip Trust Fund to support Woods Fellowships from the following persons for the academic year 1956-57:

Professor Leroy Burket $2500 Professor Christos Pulos $5000 Professor Paul Schech $5000 Professor Emanuel Wishnow $5000 Professor Donald Lentz $2500

Modify original Agreement with U.S.Forest Service for forest fire cooperation

It was moved by Regent Thompson, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, directing the president and corporation secretary of the Board of Regents shall be authorized to sign in behalf of the Board, a modification of the original No. CM-2 Agreement with the U. S. Forest Service fpr Forest Fire Cooperation in the state as described by the Forest Service and as approved by the Dean of the College of Agriculture.

Accepts gifts and grants It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, directing the following gifts and grants for research be accepted as reported by Dean and Research Administrator, John C. Weaver, report dated October 8, 1957:

$28,758 from the U. S. Public Health Service to Dr. Cecil L. Wittson of the College of Medicine: Undergraduate Psychiatric Training (Continuation).

$1,000 from the Nebraska Turkey Federation through the University of Nebraska Foundation to Dr. John L. Adams of the Department of Poultry Husbandry: The Effect of Hormones on Growth, Fattening and Reproduction of Poultry.

$2,500 from the American Dehydrators Association through the University of Nebraska Foundation to Dr. J Matsushima of the Department of Animal Husbandry: The Value of Dehydrated Alfalfa as a Protein Supplement (with or without Diethylstilbestrol) for Fattening Beef Cattle.

$5,060 from the U. S. Public Health Service to Dr. George A. Young of the Department of Animal Pathology: Enzootic Fool of Influenza Viruses.

$4,000 from the Nebraska Fertilizer Institute through the University of Nebraska Foundation to Dr. Robert A. Olson of the Department of Agronomy: Availability of Phosphorus Compounds on the Nebraska Fertilizer Market.

$2,500 from the Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation through the University of Nebraska Foundation to Dr. H. P. Rhoades of the Department of Agronomy: Urea, Anhydrous Amonia and Nitrogen Solution fior Fertilizing Grain Crops in Nebraska and the use of U. F. 85 for Soil Structure Stability (continuation).
