State Univ. and I have opened a correspondence, but by far the most congenial and desirable place is at Athens Ga. The Chicago Correspondence Univ. have enclosed me there, and I have nearly 30 letters from every where of the strongest kind. The only thing I fear is that Gen'l Hill who is at Milledgeville Ga one of the branch places

will work against me. I have written him in my candid open way and have had an answer. Prof. Conrad one of my associates in Ark it seems acted the double villain with me. Showed me letters which he said Hill wrote deragatory to me and I of course always felt Hill had his foot on my neck. Hill now says the letters were forgeries and I may reconcile matters

with him on the basis of new revelations. I [?] [?] to oppose him in Ark, but I did it in a manly way. I really hope I can get this place. The salary is 2000.00 & house and the field would be a pleasant one.
If you know Prof. White or Pres. [Mell?] a letter direct would do me good, written of course with out my appearing in it. Have not seen my family since last Aug. but I hope better day are coming.

Prof. C. E. Bessey My Dear Sir:
I presume you know I have the Chair of Nat History here. The only anxiety I have is about the [sic.] climate which I expect is very severe. I had chance to go to Washington as Assistant to Dr. Vasey at 1200.00 but chose this place at 1500.00. I may have made a mistake in not going to [?]. What do you think?
Prof. C. H. Fernald who leaves here to go to Amherst is auite a specialist in Entomology but I can not see that much
