No finds, meagre collections and a very small library for reference are circumstances I have to contend with and feel disheartened. I had hoped for more, but it seems no effort hs been made to make college collections, [sic.] but the labor has [?] to augment Prof. [?]s private [?].

I have to teach Cryptogamic Botany and as much as possible from an economic standpoint and write to ask you for any advice or suggestions you can give me. What book would you suggest for class use? Can you

refer me to any good pamphlets [?] [?], [?], [?] [vol?] &c. &c. or any reference books that will be useful. I have always given more or less upon Crytogamic Botany, but you being a specialist can [sic.] offer me some good points in literature & methods.

Would like to have you give me a short outline of your course & method of work.

What is your course in C[?]. Anatomy and what text book & reference books do you use? Do you know of any book on C[?]. Anat. of Vertebrates suitable for class use, or any work covering the whole subject of Anat. in a comparative way, suitable for 4 months work.

There seems to be a chance for original work on the Botany Mineralogy & Geology of the State.

Prof C E Bessey. Lincoln. Neb.

Dear Sir – I have sent on a list of about [7?]00 names for the Genus labels. It includes all in my herbarium, as far as I have them mounted, all in Ellis' N. A. F, & Linharts Hungarian Fungi, the first volume of Winter's Die Pilze, vols 1 & 2 of Saccordo's Syll[a?]ge. I told Patterson to send to sets direct to you. When you receive them try to make out a list of those you need for your herbarium and send to me, and I will get a-nother list ready.

Yrs. Truly E W D Holway.
