the matter of plans, specifications and contract with Mr. C. E. Chowins, for the erection of a breeding house for the station upon the experimental farm.

The matter was referred to the University and Library committee.

The Secretary read the report of professor Bessey as Director of the agricultural experiment station which was received and referred to the committee on course of study.

The Board then took a recess until 9 o'clock a.m. tomorrow.

Present Regents Burnham,Gere,Hull,Mallalieu(sic) and Roberts.

Absent Regent Davis.

Recommendations for degrees to be reported.

On motion of Regent Hull it was ordered that the Secretary of the Board be instructed to notify the Secretary of the Faculty to report immediately to Board through the proper channel ( the Chancellor) the action of the Faculty and recommendations of persons for degrees,giving(sic) the names and the degrees.

The Chancellor read his report (in part) and presented recommendations and communications from the Faculty, also the report of the Dean of the Industrial college, report of Lieut.Dudley(sic) and other reports from heads of departments,all(sic) of which were received and referred to the committee on course of study.

Degrees conferred

Class of 1888.

On motion it was ordered that the recommendations of the several Faculties for the conferring of degrees,be(sic) approved,and(sic) that degrees be conferred upon the several candidates above named, in accordance with the said recommendations and as specified above.

Masters degree Frankforter.

Ordered also that in accordance with the recommendation of the Faculty, the degree of Master of Arts be conferred upon Mr.George(sic) Bell Frankforter and that diplomas be issued to all candidates for degrees in accordance with the provisions of the By-Laws of the Board.

The Secretary called attention to the necessity of providing a vault for the safe keeping of accumulating records and files,and(sic) the matter was referred to the finance committee.

A recess was then taken until 4 o'clock p.m.

After recess.

The Board of Regents continued their session at 4 o'clock p.m.

Present Regents Burnham,Davis,Gere,Hull,Roberts(sic) and Mallalieu,- a full Board.

Relating to Butterfield's Medical degree - Diploma to issue on conditions.

Dr. Butterfield was permitted to address the Board in person, touching his candidacy for a Medical degree from the University,pending(sic) since 1884.

Ordered on motion of Regent Burnham, that upon the filing with the Secretary of the Board of Regents certificates of the Board of Examiners of the Eclectic Section of the former Medical College of the University, sworn to before a Notary Public, to the effect that Dr. Butterfied had satisfactorily passed the examinations formerly required of candidates for medical degrees, that a diploma be issued to him signed by the Chancellor and President of the Board of Regents, as in other cases: said Board of medical examiners consisting of Doctors W.S.Latta,Ira Van Camp(sic) and J.H.Woodward(sic).

Regent Roberts asked to have his vote recorded in the negative upon the motion for this order.

The Secretary read a report of progress from the building committees,which(sic) was received and placed on file.

The [Secretary] read a communication from the Faculty relating to appropriations and finances which was received and referred to the finance committee.

Relating to resignation of Wing & conduct of farm by Courtney ad interim - Cash,notes(sic) and accounts to be deposited with the Steward.

The committee on finance reported as follows:

Professor Wing of the college of agriculture and Superintendant of the college farm,having(sic0 resigned, we recommend that J.D.Courtney(sic) foreman of the farm be appointed and is hereby instructed to check, receive and receipt for all personal property pertaining to the college farm in the care of professor Wing,except(sic) cash,notes(sic) and accounts,which(sic) will be receipted for by the Steward of the University.
