The following communication was received from the Faculty:
At a meeting of the Faculty of the College of Literature,Science and Arts held June 14th. 1887, the following persons were recommended to the Board of Regents for the degrees annexed to their names respectively,

Regent Hull moved that the reports of the Faculty be received and adopted,and that the degrees recommended therein be conferred upon the several persons therein named,which motion prevailed.

The Board of Regents met at 9 oclock a.m. pursuant to their adjournment on yesterday.

The minutes of the last preceeding session were read and approved.
Relating to degrees Bigelow and Cathan.
The following communication from the Faculty was received and read by the Secretary of the Faculty in person.
Conditions.
At a meeting of the Faculty of the College of Literature,Science and Arts of the University of Nebraska held June 15th. 1887, it was resolved:
1. That we recommend the degree of B.S. to be conferred upon Mr.A.H. Bigelow upon the completion of his thesis.
2. That we recommend the degree of A.B. to be conferred upon Mr.C.S.Cathan upon the completion of work equivalent to three hours of elective work for one term.
Regent Hiatt moved that the recommendations of the Faculty as to these degrees be received and adopted and the degrees conferred on the conditions named. Carried.

Appointment of E. W. Hunt R. F. Harper D. B. Brace
The University and Library committee reported recommending that E.W.Hunt be appointed Adjunct Professor of Rhetoric & Oratory ,R.F .Harper Instructor in Modern Languages & Latin, DeWitt B. Brace Instructor in Physics, in accordance with the recommendation of the Faculty.
On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.

The finance committee reported as follows:
The finance committee have examined the Secretary's and Stewards reports (semi-annual) ,and also his report of Chemical Laboratory cash fund and that of Incidental fund ,and f ind the same correct.
The committee have the report of H.H.Wing Superintendent of the College farm, and f ind it correct.
On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.
Communication of C.B.Fox referred back.
The finance committee reported as follows upon the application of C. B.Fox for appointment as Superintendent of construction of the new buildings:
The finance committee to whom was referred the proposition of Mr. C . B. Fox, refer the matter therein contained back to the Board without recommendation. J.M.Hiatt
On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.
Salary of Secretary & Stewrad $1800. per yr. from Apl. 1 . 1887.
On motion of Regent Mallalieu, the following resolution was adopted:
Resolved , that the salary of the Secretary and Steward of the University, be placed at $1 .800 .00 per annum,commencing with the first quarter of the Legislative fiscal year 1887.
The Secretary read a communication from the Faculty relating to the re organization of the Military Department which was referred to the committee on course of study. Professor Bessey read his report as Dean, with recommendations for appropriations for experiments in the Agricultural Department, which was received and referred to the finance committee.

Regent Mallalieu offered a resolution relating to the fitting up of rooms in the basement of the main building, or the erection of a small building on the campus for the experimental station, which was received and referred to the finance committee.

Committee on general re pairs
to proceed.
Regent Hiatt moved that the report of the committee on repairs of the main building be approved and adopted ,which motion prevailed.
Same, to extent of $15.000.
Regent Burnham moved that the committee on general repairs be further authorized , in addition to the work contemplated in the contract with Mr. Chowins, to go forward with the fitting up and furnishing of the main building, to the extent of the $15.000.estimated heretofore by the Board for such purpose, which motion prevailed.
Committee on revision of the By-Laws. Holmes, Burnham & Manatt.
Regent Mallalieu moved that a committee be appointed to examine into and prepare a revision of the By-Laws of the Board, to report at the next meeting, which motion prevailed.
The President appointed as such committee Regents Holmes and Burnham,and Chancellor Manatt.
Military Departm't.
The committee on course of study to whom was referred the communication from the Faculty recommending a revision of the rules governing the Military Department,making the same conform to the statute, reported recommending that the rules reported by the Faculty be adopted. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.
Revised rules and
(The revised rules and regulations thus adopted are as follows.)
I. All male students attending the University who are required by the rules and regulations established by the Regents for the government of the Military Department, to attend upon the studies or other exercises of said department, are members of the Cadet Battalion.
II. The above rule includes all male students in the College classes, or having two studies

regulations.
therein,and not excused by the Chancellor, for six consecutive terms of drill during their course.
It will be obligatory upon the student to drill each term until the six terms required are completed or the student graduates. Students may take part or all of the required number of terms, whilst a member of the preparatory department.

III . All members of the Battalion are required to register immediately upon their entrance into the University each term in the book kept for that purpose by the Commandant of Cadets. The Commandant may excuse from such registration those holding certificates of completion of the required Military course, or those holding certificates of permanent physical disqualification.
IV. Cadets completing the required duties in this department will be furnished with a certificate showing the same, and giving also the rank attained and any extra service, or studies pursued.
V. Students coming under the rules, who are permanently physically disqualified from performing military duties, will upon application to the Chancellor be provided with a certificate showing such disqualification,which will excuse them from service in this department upon its presentation to the Commandant to be recorded by him.
VI. Cadets are required to wear a uniform,consisting of regulation coat, pants, cap and gloves, and must provide themselves therewith upon entering the University in any course of study which brings them under the requirements of the Military Department, and this uniform will be worn when on any military duty.

VII. Officers and non-commissioned officers must in addition to the uniform, provide themselves with the necessary insignia of rank.
VIII. Officers of the Cadet Battalion are to be appointed by the Commandant and are direcctly responsible to him in the discharge of all their duties as such officers.
IX. All Cadets holding such appointments at the time of their graduation shall be certified with their proper rank to the Governor of the State who will thereupon issue his commission to them in due form which they are to hold as retired officers of the "University Cadets".

X. The selection of officers of the University Cadets is to be made upon a basis involving both scholarship and capacity and fitness for command.
