Dear Prof. Bessey.

I will refer your suggestion in regard to sending the Naturalist to Prof Arthur & Bennett to Prof. Cope – as he is the owner of the Magazine. I think it should be done.

Yours very truly, A. S. Packard.

Providence Dec. 17, 86.

Dear Prof. Bessey:

I should as an old acquaintance & one who has been aided by you much in my editorial work inform you that after the issue of the Dec. No. of the Naturalist I shall have no farther connection with it. I cannot work harmoniously with Mr. Cope. He will not take advice from me & has treated me so shabbily that my self-respect has prompted me to resign. I have [?] [?] him for making the magazine his personal [?]. He has also [?] [not?] a review & editorial I prepared. In short I have entirely for the last year or two lost

I remain very cordially yrs, A. S. Packard.

Prof. Bessey:

I saw in the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical club, you desired specimens of [Cuscuta?]. Enclosed you will find a specimen of [Cuscuta?] glomerata, of which I have a number of specimens. This species is not found about here but is very abundant on the shores of lake Winebago, there is a species very common here which is very injurious to gardens, attacking all kinds of schrubery, destroying [sic.] [sic.] whole fields of raspberries and currants. I have no specimens of it in my herbarium nor do I remember the name of the species. The specimens I send you [is or?] flower and fuit, perhaps they will be
