My Dear Prof. Bessey,

I am just home from Chic. attending the Great Shows – Corn, Fat Cattle, H[?], Poultry, Butter & churn, Cattle Grasses etc. etc. I find your kind favor 11/17. In reply: Glad you are so mindful of the State Board. I have been thinking of just what you grant without asking – the size of a Meeting place in connection with the University. Your promptings were, doubtless, same as mine – to bring the Ag. College and Farms, in closer relation with the State Bd. of Ag. This has long bee my desire, as I think, I have before said the same. [In?] behalf of the Bd. I accept your offer, and will call the meeting in Jan, next to meet as you indicate.

I am sure we will have, both, a pleasant and profitable meeting.

I spent three days in Chic. on a Com. with Prof. Morrow of Ill. Ag. College, and Prof D[?], of Ohio Ag. College, examining & reporting on the "National Corn Exhibit." I will tell you all about it when we meet. Suffice it now, to say: the results of our joint labors were such, I flatter myself with the idea I may yet associate with scientists in agricultural matters.

Glad to learn you have the show cases, and have them in [?].

Truly Robt. W. Furnas

My Dear Sir:

Yours 11/22, with accompanying Circular and Petitions concerning, the Bill before Congress providing for Agricultural Stations rec'd. The same had been furnished me before, & I had [reread?] the Petitions, and forwarded them. I am, of course, in full sympathy with the movement. During the Coming Session of the Legislature, and [Winter?] Agricultural Meetings we should strengthen the matter with a Memorial of the Legislature, and [sign us?] to the p[?]. I expect to spend some time at Lincoln this Winter during the Sessions of the Legislature, and will aid all I can.

While I now think of it, will
