Referring to yours 5/26. I hand you an order $10 to [the pay?] express indicated. The Board, you will remember, authorized the expenditure by $25. When you wish it all, you can have it. And beside, I wish you to make this work you have undertaken for the Board creditable to yourself and the Board. To this end, if more than $25 is required, I will [?] such additional [amts?] as you may wish for, and trust to the full Board to reimbures. $25 was a "[expletive]" sum. It should have been $100.

Dear Sir:

Was your attention, while at New Orleans, called to that [?] grass, that came up through the asphalt pavement? I have some of it, and send specimen. — Plant it. I do not think it will stand one minute, nor do I know if it has any merit. But the fact that it actually would push its way up through the asphalt pavements is wonderful. I have forgotten its name.

Dear:

I send you to day, specimens of walnut, showing the bark and wood, of the large nut, & small nut.

Truly Robt. W. Furnas

Do you recognize, in the West, here, two varieties [?]-[?]? Americana and heterophylla! – I am quite sure there are two in this locality.
