Buffalo Bill's Welcome Home.
(Davenport Gasette, January 18)
Hon. Wm. F. Cody's old home, or rather the city which has spread over and away beyong the limits of the village which he left thirty odd years ago, gave him an enthusiastic greeting last night, at his appearance at the Opera house in his new role. The Burtin Opera house is the largest in the state, and every seat and available space of standing room was occupied.
The Gazette then goes on to speak in the most enthusiastic terms of Buffalo Bill's Combination, and the beatiful drama of "May Cody," which is to be rendered in our Opera house to-morrow evening.

BUFFALO BILL.
There were about two-thirds enough seats in the Opera house for the corwd which gathered last night to see Buffalo Bill and his Injuns. From orchestra to galleries the house was jamed, and the entrances were filled with persons standing.
The play was highly sensaitonal, startling, and exciting. "Lost and Won" gives scenes and incidents from Mormondom, written by Major A. S. Burt, U.S.A. Hon. W. F. Cody, (Buffalo Bill) is the hero, and right royally he sustains his reputation. Miss Ada Forrester as May Cody, won enthusiastic applause. Mr. Helmer did very well as Brigham Young, except that he is not big enough to recall very powerfully the portraits of that muchly married worth. Jack cass, the Mexican Bouro, and Two Bears and Cha-sha-sha-o-Pogeo, the Indians, were among the notable attractions.
During the second act Buffalo Bill gave speciments of his famous and wonderul marksmanship, among which were the following: 1. An apple from the hand. 2. From the hand, sim from the back on pedestal. 3. From the hand, rifle upside down on the top of head. 4. Snuffing a candle held in the hand. 5. Shooting the fire from a cigar held in the month. 6. Shooting an apple from the head, turning and firing at the word three. 7. Backward shot. The last was performed by the aid of a mirror.
