Dear Friend
Yours of the 16th inst. rec'd with great pleasure. Rejoice in your [preferment?] and prosperity. Hope your fullest expectations may be realized. I am thankful that I followed the "star of [Empire]?" and moved to the west. Have resided here in Mitchell nearly three years. Have assumed larger responsibilities than in the East and feel I am of more use in the world because of the burdens laid upon me. I am not amassing wealth, but live comfortably and am as Paul expressed it "Content with food and [?]" By the grace of God I

am enabled to lett my light "so shine that men may glorify My Father in Heaven."
I am respected as a Christian, and this is the greatest honor the world can give me. How has the Lord prospered your soul? I think it due our former very intimate relations that there should be an interchange of History (personal).
Write me a long letter "Charley" (How familiar that sounds) and recite your experiences – secular official & spiritual of the past years. I will reply with a statement of mine, and may not each be a means of blessing to the other.
May the Lords richest blessings rest upon you and yours,
Fraternally [Rich N. Kratz?]
