Dear Sir,

We mail you specimen pages of The Standard Natural History, S. E. [Cassius?] & Co. Boston, publishers, for whom we are the western agents. Our Mr. Connor when in Lincoln, recently very much desired to see you but was prevented by your absence. He showed the work to Prof McMillan who was also desirous of having you see it, and to whome we refer you. We very much desire to have your name as a subscriber to the work

and to have your endoresement of it, in advance of our [canvass?] of your city — We enclose letter from Prof. T. H. Snow of Lawrence, Kansas, who is a subscriber. We also enclose blank order[s?] which we shall be glad to have you fill out in return. You will notice that we agree to deliver one volume free in return for which we shall ask you to give us as good an endorsement as you think the work merits. Three volumes are ready for immediate delivery. The fourth is published and the other two will be ready before the year closes. You can take them at any intervals you choose.
