on mot ion(sic) of Regent Burnham the following resolution was adopted.

Whereas, the University of Nebraska has since its opening in 1871 to the present time,maintained(sic) a department or college the leading object of which has been and is to teach those branches of loearning which are related to agriculture and the mechanic arts,and(sic) including military tactics,under(sic) the provisions of an act of congress approved July 2d.1882(sic) granting lands to the several States for the establishment of such colleges,and(sic) which said college is now known and designated as the Industrial college of said University.

And whereas, the Board of Regents of said University have from time to time expended considerable sums of money in strictly scientific as well as popular experiments in various branches of learning and industry,

And whereas,the(sic) Board of Regents of said University of Nebraska,did(sic) in April 1886,establish(sic) an experiment station in connection with said Industrial college,for(sic) the study of animal diseases, their nature,causes(sic) and remedies,and(sic) appointed a Director of said station and have to the present time maintained said experiment station and expended for salary of said Director,apparatus,equipment s(sic) books,materials(sic) and buildings,more(sic) than seven thousand dollars,

And whereas,the(sic) said Board of Regents at their annual meeting in June 1887,with(sic) a view to the crystalization of fragmentary experimentation and the establishment of an experiment station proper,under(sic) the provisions of an act passed by the 49th. Congress commonly known as the "Hatch Bill" ,did(sic) make the following order,viz:(sic)

"Resolved,that(sic) the sum of thirty five hundred dollars be set apart for the support and maintenance of the agricultural experiment station,for(sic) the year beginning July 1st.1887, the same to be expended under the direction of the Dean of the Industrial college: this sum to be used for the purposes set forth in the report of the Dean,viz:(sic) (1) Popular experiments on the farm. (2)Observations(sic) on soil temperatures. (3)Observations(sic) on soil water(lysimetry). (4)Experiments upon subterranean irrigation. (5)Meteorological observations. (6)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. (7)Chemical analysies of soils and water. (8)The study of the injurious insects. (9)The study of the injurious fungi. (10)The study of the grasses and forage plants of the State: and for such other uses as are consistent with (sic)the purposes of this resolution".

And whereas, in the option of the Board of Regents the time has arrived when the experiment station already established in said Industrial college, should be further develop ed(sic) along the several lines indicated in said act of congress,and(sic) the said experiment station be more perfectly organized as a department of said college,
