By permission, Mr. G[e isthardt] made a statement to the Board touching the tenure of the Instructorship in Modern Languages.

The Secretary read a number of reports from heads of departments relating to estimates for departmental expenses.

Chancellors report on Faculty organization adopted.

The committee on course of study reported as follows:
Your committee to whom was referred the report of the Chancellor on Faculty organization hereby report recommending the adoption of the same.

On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.
(The report thus adopted is as follows:)
To the Board of Regents, Gentlemen:
In compliance with your resolution of December I have the honor to submit a scheme of grades for our service of instruction, as follows:
1) Professor. 2) Associate Professor, 5 yrs. tenure, 75 o/c salary. 3) Adjunct Professor, 2yrs. tenure, 60 o/c salary. 4) Senior Instructor, 1 yr. tenure, 50/60 o/c salary. 5) Junior Instructor, 1 yr. tenure, 40 o/c salary. 6) Assistant, 1yr. tenure. On this scheme I remark,

Faculty organization Chancellors report.

1) The Professor to be as now head of a department, with permanent tenure, full (100 o/c) salary.
2) Associate Professor to be appointed only,
a) when he is to have charge of department until full Professor can be appointed.
b) when there is reasonable probability of establishing a chair by division of department within five years, or
c) where a single department is of such importance as to require the permanent service of an Instructor of the rank in addition to the Professor in charge.
3) Adjunct Professor to be appointed only for College work either in recognition of satisfactory service here, or on basis of high attainments and successful experience elsewhere.
It is suggested that Chap. v. Sec.1 and 2 of the By-Laws be amended so as to read: "The Professors and Associate Professors occupying chairs &c shall constitute and be styled the Academic (Ind) Faculty" , - also ibid Sec.7 to same effect.
