Faculty organization Chancellors report continued.

As a rule, any one with all his experience to win, whatever his other qualifications, should begin here.
6) Assistant, - not an Instructor for the class room, to be appointed for laboratory and Museum work.
This scheme in its main particulars, has been presented to the Faculty and has received their explicit or implicit approval.
It offers the attraction of a graduated career in our service, while it leaves promotion to depend(as it ought)on the sum of qualifications, practical, intellectual and moral, in each individual age. Appointment to any grade should be made direct from without whenever the best man is to be found in the wider field : other things being equal, appointment by promotion should be the rule.

Lincoln, Neb. April 8, 1887.

The Board of Regents met at 9 a. m. pursuant to the adjournment on yesterday.

The same members present as on the 7th, inst.

The minutes of the last preceding meeting were read and approved.

Secretary to pay deficiencies and current bills.

On motion it was ordered, that the Secretary and Steward be authorized to pay from the appropriations of 1887-9 all approved bills on file chargeable to the deficiencies account. Also that the Secretary and Steward be authorized to pay gas and water and telephone and other current expense bills, monthly as they accrue subsequent to April 1, 1887.

Deficient salaries to be paid with interest &c.

Ordered also, that the Secretary be and is hereby authorized and instructed to pay the deficient salaries due to Professors and instructors respectively, with interest to April 1, 1887 from the legislative appropriation of 1887-9 for deficiencies .

Hydrant on campus & blackboard in room No. 33.

On motion of Regent Holmes it was ordered that the Steward be authorized to put in a hydrant on the campus and also to cause a wall blackboard to be placed in room No. 33.
