General John M. Burke returned this
morning from Iowa Falls, Iowa, full of en-
thusiasm over the race. He was satisfied
with the race but declared the riders
to be a "lemonade brigade." "They don't
drink anything but lemonade. Why, I've
bought a string of lemonade from iowa to
Chicago and the boys just broke me."

Smith and Gillespie, who were only a
short distance behind the leaders, had not
arrived at noon, and Sheldon, another
humane officer, declared that they had gone
thirteen miles out of the way and are prob-
ably lost in the woods.
