Signal Office.
War Department.
Washington City. May 6th, 1886

Professor Chas. E. Bessey,
University of Nebraska,
Lincoln, Neb.

Siri -
Referring to your communication of the 26th ultimo, regarding the observation of tornadoes in Iowa and Nebraska, I have the honor to say that this office will be very glad to have you continue your valuable observations and reports from your new station at Lincoln, Nebraska, as far as it is possible for you to make them. This office will gladly accept the services of Prof. J. G. Haines, at Ames, Iowa, as you have suggested, and he has been so written.

Your enclosed report on "Tornado Day" (April 14th 1886) is very interesting.

Tornado publications will be mailed to you at your new station.
I am, very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,
[Illegible]
Brig. & Bvc. Maj. Gen'l
Chief Signal Officer, U.S.A.
