130DEC 14 1887 Relating to the petitions of the W.C.T.U. (tobacco) Your committee to when was referred the petitions of the ladies of the Womens Christian Temperance Union,praying(sic) the exercise of our authority prohibiting the use of tobacco among the students of the University,desire(sic) to submit the following report: First: Upon careful examination we find that this great evil does not exist to any extend among the students of the University .(sic) That the rules and regulations of the University prohibit the use of tobacco around the grounds. Second: That students seldom, if ever, use tobacco in a form that would come under the conservation of those in authority, while in actual attendance at the University. Third: That the use of tobacco by students, when not in actual attendance at the University, is a matter that does not come under the jurisdiction of this board. We the refore(sic) recommend that further consideration of the petitions be indefinitely postponed. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted.
