123Miss Smith retained 1 yr. $1200. Regent Burnham moved that Miss Ellen Smith be appointed for the ensuing year as Registrar and custodian of the Library ,at a salary of twelve hundred dollars per annum,which motion prevailed. Jun 16 1887 Miss Smith's claim disallowed. The University & Library committee reported as follows: Your committee to whom was referred the report of the Faculty in reference to Miss Ellen Smith, recommend, that the appropriation of $77.00 to reemburse her for extra services and expenses incurred, be not allowed. E.P.Holmes,L.Burnham. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted. Leave of Absence, to Chancellor Manatt. The Chancellor presented verbally a request for a leave of absence until after the close of the next fall term. Regent Holmes moved that a leave of absence be granted to Chancellor Manatt, until the first of January next ,which motion prevailed. Bessey elected Dean &c. Regent Burnham moved that Prof. C.E. Bessey be appointed Dean of the Industrial College Faculty for the ensuing year. The motion prevailed. Philosophy - Mc.Millan. (Title.) Regent Burnham moved that the instruction in Philosophy be added to the duties of Professor George Mc.Millan for the ensuing year ,and that the title of "Acting Instructor in Philosophy" ,be added to his present title. The motion prevailed. Appropriations recommended by Finance committee. The finance committee reported as follows: The finance committee recommend the following for the year ending July 1st. 1888. Salaries Faculty, Instructors & employees $43,800. On motion the report of the committee was addopted. $2500. for Library for 1 yr. Regent Hiatt moved that the sum of twenty five hundred dollars be appropriated and set apart for the purchase for the Library, for the year ensuing to be distributed by the Faculty.
