APR 6, 1887

Lincoln, Neb. April 6th 1887.

The Board of Regents of the University, met in special session at 2 O'clock p.m. upon the call of the President, pursuant to the order made at its adjournment on March 17, 1887.

Present Regents: Ieavitt Burnham, C. H. Gere, M. J. Hull and E. P. Holmes.
Absent Regents J. M. Hiatt and J. T. Maillalieu.

The minutes of the last preceeding meeting were read and approved.

The Secretary presented a memoranda of business, also a communication from Miss Smith as Custodian of the Library, also communications from the Faculty, relating to the status and tenure of Instructors, which was presented at and laid over from a former meeting. The Secretary also presented bills on file and the Chancellors financial report, all of which were referred to the finance committee.

Communication of Miss Smith referred back &c.

On motion it was ordered, that the communication of Miss Smith relating to the care and management of the Library &c., be referred back to her, to be transmitted through the Library Committee of the Faculty, to be accompanied by such recommendations as they may deem proper as to extra conpensation or otherwise.

Director of the Chemical laboratory. Prof. Nicholson

The Chanceellor suggested that there be added to Professor Nicholsons title, the works 'Director of the Chemical Laboratory'. Thereupon the following resolution was adopted:
Resolved: that in the new catalogue and hereafter until further order, the title of Professor Nicholson be known and described as 'Professor of Chemistry and Physics and Director of the Chemical Laboratory'.

The Chancellor submitted suggestions touching the matter of a Geological survey of the State by the University on its own account, leave of absence to Prof. Hicks for field work, assistance &c., referr
