My Dear Sir:

Owing to
absence from home I have
not till now been able to
reply to your note of the 19th inst.
The fungus you send is
Paxillus porosus [Bark?].
It is intermediate between the
genera Paxillus and Voletus.
Berkeley placed it in the former
but if I had described it I
should have placed it in Boletus
though it is not exactly like other
species of that genus – neither like
the other Paxilli.
