Prof. C. E. Bessey,
Lincoln, Nebraska,
Dear friend:_
I thank you for the letter of communication concerning Mr. Thomas Wilson, but am not quite clear as to which you would place first in your estimate, Mr. Wilson or Mr. Hitchcock. Mr. H. J. Webber of the Shaw School of Botany has also been mentioned in connection with the chair here. Can you tell me anything of him? I think he has more of experience than the others in teaching botany, and has followed a special lines of work which our experiment station is equiped for. I need all the help that my friends can give in selecting for this important department. We are unable to tempt by superior salary any man of established reputation, and must be satisfied to find one who can grow with us.
Yours Truly,
Geo. T. Fairchild
