Prof. Charles E. Bessey,
Lincoln, Neb.

Dear Professor:

Replying to yours of the 22nd inst. we are please to say
that Gray's New Manual will be in stock February 1st, if not
before, when we will be ready to supply them to the trade and
we shall send you some copies at the earliest possible date.

In regard to our issuing an edition on thin paper with narrow
margin you have, we think, been misinformed. We find there is no demand for an edition gotten up in that way sufficient to
warrant our making them. We have throroughly considered the
matter our making them. We have thoroughly considered the
matter and would be pleased to accomodate all parties by having
the book as each may wish it, but having tried the experiment on
another book we have had it fully demonstrated that it does not
pay and have therefore concluded to have but one edition as here-
tofore. We have had orders for a few copies bound in oilcloth
for use in the laboratory or the field, and are binding a few of
the books in that way now, but we do not recommend them for any
other than hard usage, where the appearance and binding of the
book are totally disregarded. Should you desire any for your
use bound in this way we shall be pleased to furnish them on the
same terms as the regular book. Hoping this will be sat-
isfactory, we remain,

Yours truly,
