Your committe consider this work and service a desirable one, and recommend that the finance committee, if possible, appropriate the sum of $125.00 towards expsense of carrying out the same.

4. Communication from professor Fontaine asking advance to associate professorship, and division of department of Modern Languages;
This communicationfrom an instructor in said department comes without the endorsement of the head of that dpartment. Such endorsement and reccomendation the head of that department declines to give stating generally as reason therefor that it appears to him not in the interest of the department so to do. It seems to your committee under these circumstances inconsistent to furhter consider said communciation from professor Fontaine and they therefore recommend no action thereon.

5. The constitution of the Academic and Industrial Faculties, with reference to chairs embraced therein:
Your committee understand the question of the respective Faculties to be, under recent arrangement or division,- what particular chairs are to be embraced in each. This seems to your committee more a matter of form or convenience as to conference that of substance, and accordinglyrecommend that the acting Chancellor and Faculty consider and recommend such division or assignment of chairs as will best accomplish the object in view.

6. Chancellor or acting Chancellor of current year.
From the condition of funds as created by action of the last Legislature, it seems to your committee wholly out of the question to contemplate the selection and appointment of such a person for Chancellor as the situation demands: the question is therefore as to an acting Chancellor for another year. In the opinion of your committee no one who is available, is so well qualified and fitted for said place as the present incumbent professor Bessey, and while aware that the duties of the position add to his already numerous burdens, recommend that he be reelected to that office and urged to continue therein.
