Cody Has a Distinguished Party at His Show. Col. William Cody, who is otherwise known as "Buffalo Bill," is not fetterdd by the Sunday closing rule, as his show is outside the fair grounds. The consequence was that he was visited by 25,000 people yesterday, almost twice as many as went to the big fair the day before, and everybody who was there seemed to enjoy themselves. The duke of Veragua and his party were of the multitude, as were the naval officers who are now in the city, and after it was over they all united in saying it was a great show. Col. Cody's distinguished guests applauded the wonderful display of horsemanship and marksmanship as heartily as did their more humble companions on the bleaching boards, and when the Deadwood coach was attacked and rescued in the good old regulation way two nephews of the duke had seats on the box. During the preformance Master John Burke No-Heck, the youthful scion of the aboriginal family of No-Hecks, presented the duchess with a bouquet of roses and the Indian youngster and Spanish aristocrat gazed curiously at one another. Altogether Col. Cody had a successful opening and many people had to be turned away because there was no room for them. |
