for at New York I was
too busy to get any rest
or even much amusement.

You sent some
time ago a specimen
in a small box and it
is to that that your
last letter refers. I examined
the specimen
at the time and found
what appeared to be
two things. The large
round cells are what
Saccardo called Protomyces
xylogenus afterwards
referred to Coccospora

aurautiaca [Walbr?]. in the
[Sylloge?]. The description
of the [Sylloge?] would
barely be suggested by
Saccardo's figure, however.

The other four which
gave the color to the whole
I have not been able to
recognize for I have
not been able to compare
it carefully enough
with Curtis's things. Have
you any more information
about it?

Except Mr. Watson,
everyone is away. Prof.
Gray will be back about
the first of October.
