My dear Sir,

Yours of July 5th is before me
in which you say you have asked Messrs. Holt & Co. to send
me a copy of your new book on Botany, with the request to
examine it and report.

I should have been pleased to have done so and have
no doubt that it would have received favorable comments
from me for the name of the author is quite sure to give the
work a favorable reception, but unfortunately I cannot do
as you request since Holt and Company sent me only a circular!
