My dear Prof. Bessey
Since the receipt of your new botanical
text-bok some months ago my circumstances
have been such that I could not give it the
[illegible] examination I desired and hence its
delay in acknowledgment. During the
last week I have taken it [illegible] and gone over it
carefully [illegible] must say that you have succeeded
in giving in a condensed [illegible] admirable
manner the best results contained in the
works of the great European [illegible] placed
within reach of students at a moderate cost a
[illegible] which can be read in the [illegible] room and
laboratory. For this and the large number of
excellent illustration borrowed and original you
deserve this thanks of all [illegible] and teachers of the
science. I shall [illegible] the book into the hands
of my students.
