Yesterday was poor children's day and was fittingly celebrated by the element it represented. Thousands of children of both sexes spent a very enjoyable day. They did not attend the World's Fair, but were allowed the freedom of Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. To say that they appreciated the treat would be putting it mildly, and to show their appreciation they presented generous W. F. Cody within elaborate gold plate in imitation of a messenger service slip. This tenders him the services or the messengers is long as he lives. There were many crippled and maimed waifs among them who were well taken care of by their youthful associates. The parade formed at Market and Madison streets, passed through Fifth avenue, Washington, Dearborn and Monroe streets. The Illinois Central furnished free trains, which the youngsters boarded at the lakefront. Among the firms who donated prizes were the Pairpoint Manufacturing company, A. Lipman, Lyon & Healy, Meriden, Britannia company, Mack &Becker, Brainard & Sons, A. G. Spaulding, and Louis E. Black |
