Professor C. E. Bessey,

Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dear Friend Mr. Bessey:

I have searched our ponds, creeks, rivers etc., for Marsiliabut am afraid I have been unsuccessful.

The last time I was out I was about five miles west of this place, at a large pond which has been a stationary feature there for as long as I can remember. It should be a very favorable place this plant, as it is very woody and grassy. I enclose a small plant that I found floating on the surface of the water and in some places growing on the mud in very damp places. I do not think it is Masilia, but will send it along.

Very truly yours,
