As Buffalo Bill, accompanied by his
wife and daughters, were returning from the
Opera House to his hotel after the performance
on the night of the 3d in Council
Bluffs, Ia., a horseman came dashing up the
street, and when within a few feet of Bill,
drew a revolver and fired three or four shots
toward the party, and the rode rapidly
away. Fortunately none of the shots took
effect, one merely grazing the cheek of Mr.
Cody. He thinks the shots certainly could
not have been intended for him. He offered,
however, $100 for the apprehension of the
miscreant. The fellow, whose name is Benedict,
was arrested next day, and in default
of $1000 bail was sent to jail. He gives no
explanation of his strange conduct.
