The secretary called attention to the communication of Dr. Billings and also the report of Supt. Win[g] laid over from the March meeting.

The Chancellor made a report in the matter of rank of Professorships, Instructorships &c., which was referred to the committee on course of study.

Form of notice to Appointees upon force of Instruction &c.

The Chancellor also suggested a form of announcement of appointments of Professors, Instructors &c.
Regent Burnham moved that the form of notice of appointment to positions upon the force of Instructors &c., in the University, suggested by the Chancellor, be adopted and used hereafter in the University for the purpose indicated.
The motion prevailed. The form of notice thus adopted is as follows:
University of Nebraska,
Lincoln, _______ 188_.

Sir:
I am instructed by the Board of Regents to notify you of your appointment as __________ at a salary of $_____ per annum. The appointment extends from ______ to ________, when it expires without further notice unless definitely renewed
While it is the policy of the Board of Regents to require of Instructors work outside of their respective departments only in case of necessity every appointment is subject to the following By _law (v. 7. ).
Be pleased to signify in writing your acceptance of the appointment.

Dr.Billings apparatus purchased. &c. $2,225.70. Referred to Bessey and Dales.

Regent Burnham offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Resolved, that the Board purchase the apparatus and working material offered by Dr. F. S. Billings and pay him therefor a sum not exceeding $2225.70, said purchase to be made and completed when said apparatus and material has been examined and scheduled by Professor Bessey and Secretary Dales, to whom said matter is hereby referred and full and complete title to the same in said Billings is shown. That during such period as his engagement continues, said apparatus and material be placed solely in the charge and under the care of Dr. Billings and that he be held responsible for the same.

$200.00 for adding to Billings work building on farm.

Also that a sum not exceeding $200.00 be appropriated for the purpose of adding to and enlarging the work building used by Dr. Billings on the farm.
The resolution prevailed.
