After recess.

Lincoln, Neb. April 7th, 1887.

The Board of Regents met at 9 O'clock a.m. pursuant to its adjournment of yesterday.

Present Regents Burnham, Gere, Hull and Holmes.
Absent Regents Hiatt and Mallalieu.

The minutes of the last preceeding meeting were read and approved.

The Secretary presented and read an account of expenditures by Professor Bessey. Referred to the finance committee.

Rule for presenting statements of estimated department expenses.

On motion the following resolution was adopted.
Resolved, that all departments of the University are required to submit to the Board of Regents, in writing, a full and complete itemized statement of all contemplated expenditures for each year, and that said departments will be strictly confined during said years to such estimates as shall have been approved by the Board. That the departments are hereby required to submit to the Board all estimates for the next year, at the meeting of the Board and that said estimates shall in all cases, first be approved by the proper Faculty.

Committee on repairs of the main Building. President, Chancellor, Secretary.

Regent Burnham offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Resolved, that the chairman of the Board, the Chancellor and Secretary of the Board, be and they are hereby appointed and constituted a committee to proceed with repairs upon the main University building to wit : complete removal and restoration of the interior foundations, protection and proper support of the tower, introduction of sewerage and water closets, and such other internal repairs, improvements and additions in and to walls, floors and furniture as can be embraced within a sum not exceeding $12,000.00, it being understood that the foundation and tower shall first be cared for.

Power to act &c.

That Mr. James Tyler of Lincoln, Architect, be first employed to prepare detailed plans and specifications for said work, and submit the same to said committee, who shall thereupon procure bids for said work and enter into proper contract, guarantees and supervision for and of the same. That preparation for all said work shall be made immediately, so that actual work may be commenced at the beginning of the summer vacation and pushed to completion before its close. That said committee are hereby authorized and empowered to carry forward said work and to approve and direct payments therefor.
