Dear Professor:

I send you by this
evening's mail a specimen
of what we call
Yeast Plant. It is not
a native of this place
but is grown in our
garden. My mother got
the seed of a woman
from Wisconsin. I do
not know that that state
is its home – in fact this
is all I know of its history.

The specimen is one
of the numerous branches
