Agricultural College,
Lansing, Mich., March 7 1880

Prof. C. E. Bessey,

My Dear Sir,

I should
like Dr. [Farlan?] if he would take hold of it.
I do not know how much of a
botanist or [experimenter?] [Burrell?] is.
We will watch him. Dr. [Vaseg?] will
never bring out any thing of much
notice. I presume [bother?] of [Mathington?]
the chemist will be a good [member?]
[our?] chemists will decide that.

A good way to place these men on
committees if we do that way will be
to give them a chance. I am not
certain where Brewer would go, but I
think in meteorology or something like
it with [Fernold?]. Run over the
Naturalist directory and all the good men
you know and learn all you can
about them. The leading object should
not be lost sight of – science as related
to agriculture. I am anxious to
see your Botany. I wrote a considerable
part of one, two or three years
ago, I presume I shall not publish.
