me; this will explain
my delay in acknowledging its
receipt, & thanking you for it.

I have given the book a somewhat
careful examination, & am
much pleased with the way in
which you have accomplished
the by no means easy task of
writing a text-book of botany
well adapted for use in the
class-room. The work shows
a great deal of conscientious &
