The Buffalo Bill Combination,

In spite of the exceedingly disagreeable weather, drew out a large audience at Smyth's Hall last evening, and gave an entertainment that was replete with amusement and thrilling adventure. The plays in which Buffalo Bill figures always take with the crowd, and consequently he is, almost invariably, warmly received in every city and town where he appears. The attraction last night was the drama "May Cody; or, Lost and Won," preceded by the laughable farce of "The Limerick Boy," which latter kept the audience in a roar throughout nearly its entire enactment. Paddy Miles was personated in a manner remarkably true to nature. It is seldom that such a simon pure Irish character is seen upon a stage in this city. It was a very rich piece of acting. The same person took the part of an Irishman in the principal play, and did it capitally, creating lots of merriment among the spectators. Buffalo Bill as usual sustained the leading character in the drama and delighted the audience by coming out uninjured from numerous hair-breadth escapes. The play is a story of life on the border, and abounds with excitement, Indians, soldiers, shooting and fighting. A vein of fun, furnished almost entirely by the Irishman, runs through it, rendering it amusing as well as thrilling.

The marksmanship of the Austin Brothers was simply wonderful. With rifles they shot potatoes from each other's heads and hands, snuffed a candle and cigar, and did astounding feats. There is no

actor who comes here who commands such large audiences as Buffalo Bill. He is a tall, well-proportioned, fine-looking man, his physique being in keeping with the enviable reputation he has acquired for being a daring scout and a skillful rifleman. Undoubtedly an immense crowd will flock to witness the play this evening.

Buffalo Bill.

Another crowded house at the theatre last night attests the popularity of Buffalo Bill as a delineator of the western scout and guide. At each visit to this city the character of the piece as presenting frontier life undergoes improvement, and now the combination is one that gives, better than ever before, scenes upon the plains. By omitting promiscuous Indians, retaining only two or three veritable ones introducing an Irishman for the fun, substituting tableaux for indiscriminate firing of guns and pistols, a near approach to the genuine thing is given. The Austin brothers gave an exhibition of their accurate marksmanship, using the Frank Wesson rifle, and one of the characters showed what it is possible to do with the mule whip, with which he kept the nervous ones in anything but a happy condition by the rapidity of the cracks, loud as musket reports, he discharged over the heads. The efforts of the company were received with vociferous applause, and such a yell of welcome as went up for Buffalo Bill has not been very recently heard here.

"Buffalo Bill" played to a small audience at the theatre last evening, but the "gods" made up in noise what they lacked in numbers, and Mr. "Bill" could not but be pleased with the heartiness of his second night's reception. The Austin brothers gave another exhibition of their skill at a short distance shooting, which is quite ahead of anything ever attempted by other professional marksmen. The entertainment as a whole is the best "Buffalo Bill" has yet given here, and when he comes again the boys will be on hand to greet him.
