154Chancellor to secure Dr. Fred . I . Tomkins, London for University address,$100.(sic) On motion it was ordered that the Chancellor be authorized to secure Dr. Frederick I Tomkins of London England, to deliver the University address and to guarantee his expenses not to exceed $100. which sum or so much thereof as may be necessary is appropriated. MAR 22 1888 Petition for right of way through experimental farm,ref'd to Ex.Comt.(sic) (Board) Regent Mallalieu offered the following: That the matter of the petition of citizens of Lincoln for a right of way for an avenue from the s.w. corner of the east half of the Industrial farm to the n.e. corner be referred to the executive committee of the Board with instructions to report upon the powers of the Board in the matter at the June meeting. The motion of Regent Mallalieu to adopt prevailed. Regent Burnham was excused from the meeting at this time. Chancellor to act in securing a candidate for Philosophy, and report. On mot ion(sic) of Regent Mallalieu the following was adopted: That the Chancellor of the University be authorized to correspond in reference to a suitable candidate for the chair of philosophy and kindred subjects and to make recommendations to the Board in reference to this position,at(sic) a subsequent meeting of the Board. The Secretary read a communication from Dean Bessey of the Industrial College,relating(sic) to the condition of the manual labor fund,which(sic) was received and referred to the finance committee. The Secretary and Steward called attention to the condition of the fund appropriated for the department of Chemistry & Physics,and(sic) the charge made against the same of $375.00 for fitting up rooms for physics in the main building: the matter was referred to the finance committee. Chancellors expenses in re philosophy. On motion of Regent Mallalieu it was ordered that in case the Chancellor finds it necessary to visit the east in securing a candidate for the chair of philosophy,that(sic) his travelling expenses be paid. $4oo borrowed from station building fund,to erect temporary breeding house. The committee on course of study reported as follows: Resolved,that(sic) $4oo.oo(sic) or such part thereof as may be needed, be borrowed from the $3.ooo.appropriated(sic) for the building on the farm,and(sic) used under the directions of the executive committee of the experiment station,for(sic) the erection of a suitable temporary building in which to keep the animals now in the basement of the University.
