It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put
to vote and carried, directing the request of Dean Walter E. Militzer of
the College of Arts and Sciences be approved wherein Professor Walter F.
Wright, Assistant Dean, be permitted to accept an honorarium of $750 from
the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Program while serving as regional
chairman for this program.

Approve mileage policy for
use of automobiles for
university purposes

It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Adkins, motion
put to vote and carried, directing that the following policy in reference
to mileage reimbursement for University-owned cars and private cars used
for University purposes be approved.

Mileage Reimbursement and University Auto Pool Charges

Increased costs in the operation of University-owned cars make it
necessary to revise our allowances and charges. This is permissible under
a recent change in the statutory allowance for mileage reimbursement. The
following will affect all travel by University pool cars and private
automobiles beginning December 1, 1959.

UNIVERSITY POOL CARS
University pool cars will be charged to the using department at the
race of 6[cents] per mile with a minimum-per-trip charge of $1.00 or a minimum
charge of 50[cents] per hour based on the normal working day.

Minimum monthly charges for assigned cars will be: passenger
cars $60.00; station wagons, $70.00; and special rates for trucks based
on total cost of depreciation over a five-year period and experience
factor as per mileage costs.

PERSONAL CARS
Individuals may use their personal cars and be reimbursed at the
rate of 6[cents] per mile except in the following instances when reimbursement
will be made as noted:

1. If a University pool car is requested at least 24 hours
prior to the time of departure and a car is not available, the Car Pool
will issue a certificate stating that a car was not available. If this
certificate is submitted with the travel voucher, mileage may be claimed
at 7[cents] per mile.

2. The use of University cars outside the State of Nebraska is
discouraged. Individuald traveling to areas in states adjacent to
Nebraska that are inaccessible by common carrier may be reimbursed at the
rate of 7[cents] per mile for use of their personal cars. Other out-of-state
travel will be reimbursable as noted in paragraph 3.

3. Except as noted in paragraph 2 and except in those cases where
the use of a private automobile has been determined to be to the advantage
of the University, those individuals using private automobiles outisde
the State of Nebraska will be paid the equivalent of first-class rail fare
plus lower pullman in lieu of mileage.

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Adkins,
motion put to vote and carried, directing that the research grants in the
amount of $119,486.60 and training grants in the amount of $184,871 as
reported by Dean H. E. Wise, under date of November 3 be approved.

$14,812 from the U. S. Public Health Service for research by
Dr. Marjorie J. Hook of the Department of Neurology and
Psychiatry: Role of the Nurse in Psychiatric Follow-up of

Dr. Wallace E. LaBerge of the Department of Entomology:
Systematics of Bees of the Genus Andrena in North America.
