183Special Meeting of Chemistry. Request payment for Chair of Actuarial Science RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Regents of The University of Nebraska, in meeting this date, do respectfully request that The University Foundation make payment to the University Comptroller from "The Chair of Actuarial Science Fund" in the amount of $4,500.00 Such monies are to be used to supplement the budget of The College of Arts and Sciences for the development of actuarial science at The University of Nebraska over a period of six months from July 1, 1958, salary for Robert E. Larson. It was moved by Regent Swanson, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, directing the following resolution be approved. Request payment for Mental Health Program from Woods Fund RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED that The Board of Regents of The University of Nebrska, in meeting this date, do respectfully equest that The University Foundation make payment to the University Comptroller from "The Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Woods Memorial Fund" in the amount of $9,267.74. Such monies are to be used to supplement the budget of the Department of University Health of the University of Nebraska for the development of a suitable Mental Health Program at the University of Nebraska over a period of six months from July 1, 1958, salaries for I. W. Brill, $6,750.00 and Benjamin Kleinmuntz, $1,567.74, and Florence Bader, $950.00. Approve leave of absence for Khem M. Shahani It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Greenberg, that Khem M. Shahani, Associate Professor of Dairy Husbandry, be granted a leave of absence of one and one-half months, with pay, from November 24, 1958 to January 8, 1959, to act as a member of a team of three volunteers who will be in charge of the demonstrations at the International Trade Fair, New Delhi, India, sponsored by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agricultural Service, in cooperation with Dairy Society International. Motion put to vote and carried. Request study of National Defense Education Act From the Chancellor's office comes a request for advice as to whether or not the University of Nebraska desires to enter into the National Defense Education Act passed by the 85th Congress and signed by the President on September 2, 1958. This measure provides for a National Defense Student Loan program of federal loan funds to student borrowers. It was the opinion of the Board that Chancellor Hardin should be instructed to receive and review all available information in reference to the federal student loan program and submit this information to the Board of Regents with his recommendation for consideration and action by the Board. Resolution from Legislative Council Fish and Game Committee The Board of Regents received from Jack W. Rodgers, Director of Research for the Legislative Council, the following resolution adopted by the Legislative Council Fish and Game Committee: "It is the opinion of the Legislative Council study committee of fish, game and recreation, that a tremendous potential in recreational and hitorical areas and usable facilities which could be used by the Game, Forestation and Parks Commission, - 180 - | 183Special Meeting of Chemistry.
