It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Swanson, motion put to vote and carried, that the foregoing proposals be adopted and that a new department be created in the College of Engineering and Architecture to be designated "The Department of Chemical Engineering."

Approve revised plan of Group Hospital-Surgical Medical Expense Insurance

From the Committee on Insurance and Retirement Plans of the University Senate comes a request that the Board of Regents give approval to a revised plan of Group Hospitalization-Surgical-Medical Expense Insurance for University employees. The revised plan was recommended by the Committee on Insurance and Retirement Plans after the employee groups concerned had given majority approval.

It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Greenberg, motion put to vote and carried, that the recommendation of the Senate committee on Insurance and retirement plans be accepted.

General current funds budget for 1958-59 approved

Details and analyses of the proposed general current funds budget for 1958-59 having been made available to members of the Board of Regents during recent weeks, the University Comptroller presented a summary statement of the materials previously distributed. Total estimated income and expenditures for the 1958-59 fiscal year are $14,368,257.59. Exhibits and schedules supporting this total figure are made a part of the minutes documents file.

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, that the proposed general current funds budget for 1958-59 be adopted.

Authorize Sale of Property in California -Vreeland Estate

It was moved byRegent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Welsh, motion put to vote and carried, that the president and assistant corporation secretary of the Board of Regents be authorized and directed to execute the necessary documents to convey to Rae Gillis, a married woman, as her separate property, an undivided one-half interest in Lot 17 of Tract 4040 in the City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles, California, as per map recorded in Book 44, page 18 of Maps in the office of the County Recorder of said county. (This property is a part of the Vreeland Estate.) Terms of the sale are as follows: sale price, $11,500, with a cash payment of $3,675 and a note for $7,875. A copy of the Escrow Instructions in connection with this sale is made a part of the minutes documents fiel.

From the University of Nebraska Foundation comees a copy of the auditor's report for the year ended December 31, 1957. Mr. Perry W. Branch, Director-Secretary of the University of Nebraska Foundation, spoke briefly to the Board of Regents concernig the University of Nebraska Foundation operations.
