130DEC 14 1887 Relating to the petitions of the W.C.T.U. (tobacco) Your committee to whom was referred the petitions of the ladies of the Womens Christian Temperance Union,praying(sic) the exercise of our authority prohibiting the use of tobacco among the students of the University,desire(sic) to submit the following report: First: Upon careful examination we find that this great evil does not exist to any extent among the students of the University .(sic) That the rules and regulations of the University prohibit the use of tobacco around the grounds. Second: That students seldom, if ever, use tobacco in a form that would come under the observation of those in authority, while in actual attendance at the University. Third: That the use of tobacco by students, when not in actual attendance at the University, is a matter that does not come under the jurisdiction of this board. We the refore(sic) recommend that further consideration of the (sic)petitions be indefinitely postponed. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted. Relating to purchase of appr. for phys.lab't (ref'd to Fac'lt)(sic) The committee on course of study reported as follows: (on proposition to buy phys.apparatus.)(sic) The committee recommend that the matter be referred to the Faculty in pursuance of rules relating to appropriations,with(sic) request that report there on be made at the next meeting of the Board. On motion the report of the committee was received and adopted. Relating to time service. Ref'd back to Faculty. Regent Hull moved that the communication from the Faculty relating to a time service, be referred back to the Faculty to be considered and report ed(sic) in the same manner as other recommendations for expenditures. The mot(sic)ion prevailed. Report of committee on revision of By-laws. The special committee appointed to consider and report a revision of the By-Laws of the Board submitted and read their report section by section. Proceedings on. Whereas, the custom of witholding the standing of the members of the Senior class until commencement day, is unwise on account of uncertainty, often times placing said members in an embarrassing position,therefore,(sic) Mallalieu resolution relating to Senior class, to be inserted as amendment to By-Laws. Be it resolved, that hereafter the examinations of the Senior class close two weeks previous to the beginning of commencement week, and that the standing of the members thereof and the recommendations of the Faculty in relation thereto,shall(sic) be filed with the Scretary of the Board of Regents within one week after the terminations of said examinations .(sic) 126 | 130DEC 14 1887 Relating to the petitions of the W.C.T.U.
