13th/87 conerning an appropriation
for the botanical division of the
Agricultre Dept, to enable further
investigation in the matter of grasses,
was received. I regard this as
very important for the west and will
gladly do what I can to have
as liberal an appropriation granted
as possible , but I am not on the
"Appropriations" Comittee, of which
Senator [Allison?] of Iowa is Chairman,
