SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 1887

Just before closing her engagement with the Wild West Show in this city, Annie Oakley accomplished the notable feat of picking her hat from the ground while she was riding at full speed. She and many others believe that this was never before done from a side-saddle by anything in the semblance of woman.

At the matinee at Madison-square Garden on Washington's Birthday Miss Annie Oakley was presented with a gold medal from the Ladies' Riding Club, making the fourth medal that has come her way since she opened in New York. She left for her home in Ohio 24.

BENJAMIN WOOD, EDITOR.

SUNDAY, MARCH 13, 1887.

Miss Annie Oakley, the queen of the female wing shots, who is matched to shoot against John Brewer, writes if there is any female rifl-shot who has an idea that she she can defeat her, either shooting with the rifle at pigeons, swinging targets or fixed makrs, all she have to do is put up a deposit and a match will be ratified. This is a shot at Kennedy's female rifle shot of Mexico, not in this city.

THE RECORD

SHOOTING AT FLYERS.

Brewer and Miss Oakley Try Their Skill at Pastime Park.

John L. Brewer, the crack wing shot, and Miss Annie Oakley, the (blackout) who was a member of the Wild West show, shot a 50-bird live pigeon match for the gate receipts at Pas time Park yesterday afternoon. Brewer won by 15 birds. Miss Oakley's birds were unusually strong flyers, and most of them were left quar terers. She used only 2 1/2 dram of powder and 1 ounce of shot. Brewere loaded with 1 1/4 ounces of shot and 3 1/2 drams of power. Miss Oakey's style of shooting is very graceful, but she took too many snap shots, evidently being afraid of letting the birds get any distance away. She shot at 24 yards rise, and Brewer shot at 30 yards. There were five ground traps, and the boundary was 50 yards. J. Frank Kleinz acted as referee. The attendance was about 800, at 25 coins a head. The score follows --- 1 indicating killed with 1 barrel, 2 killed using both barrels and 0 missed:

Brewer -- 2 1 2 1 0 1 2 0 1 1 1 2 1 2 1 1 1 0 1 1 1 2 1 2 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 1 1 2 1 0 1 2 1 1 2 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 - Total, 45 killed, 5 missed.

Pigeon Shooting.

The return pigeon shooting match between Miss Annie Oakley and John Brewer took place at Point Breeze Park yesterday after noon. The former made a much better score that in the Pastime Park match, killing twenty-four straight, beginnning with the twenty-four bird. She was then one bird ahead of Brewer, with two to shoot at. THE REFEREE.

Wm. B. Kennedy claims that his wife can beat the world, and offers to match her to shoot againsst either Miss Lilian Smith or Miss Annie Oakley, but there is little prospect of a match, for outside of Miss Annie Oakley there is no one who would dare put up money to shoot against Lilian Smith, who is, with the exception of Miss Annie Oakley, the premier with a rifle, and no challenge or statement published or made by any other female rifle shot or her agent can injure or affect the feats and performances that have been accomplished by either Miss Lilian Smith or Miss Annie Oakley.

Besides, the latter are ready to put up their money that they can defeat any female wing shot in the world.
