My dear Dr. Bessey:—
And now you cannot
go to Buffalo. I am sorry. You have
an answer to your request before this
for I had written you that I could
not attend and asked you to look out
for my interests. It would have been
a keen pleasure to gather items for
the Am. Nat. for you. (And right
here while I think of it let me say I
cannot find your article on [Portulaca?]
stamens. There is no full set of the
Am. Nat. on the grounds. I am anxious
to know if I have added anything to the
knowledge of the subject. Would the publishers
send me that particular number?) Of
late I have sent all my spare
time getting matters together for [?]
[?] for the S. P. A. S. Farlow's paper
is to be on [Exoasci?]. I am anxious
to know what he has found. It is
doubtful if he gets there in time
