this is one of the greatest places for
small said boats to be found any where.
A shallow lagoon varying in width from
3/4 to 5 miles and extending along the coast
for over 150 miles affords a chance for
small sail not eaily found elsewhere.
Add to this the fact that boats are the only
means of intercommunication between places on
the river, as there are no roads, and you can
see how it is that there are no less than 500
boats between 15 and 30 ft long here. Willis
and I estimate that we have sailed over
ten thousand miles in our 21 ft boat. I am
just now commencing to build a boat 21 ft 10 in
long, 9 ft 8 in beams. She would carry a sail 26 ft
on the beam, 21 ft hoist and 14 ft [gall?]. I expect
her to be very fast. You have no idea how
fascinating a subject boat designing is, I
am sure you would like it immensely
and have great pleasure in sailing a
good boat.
