Dear Bro. Charles:

Doubtless you think
it high time to hear from me – if
indeed you think there is any chance
that you can well hear at all, for
my first [?] is such as to
induce the belief that I have no
intention of ever writing again. If
such is your belief you are
destined to disappointment,not
only at the present, but [?]
in the future. I am seated by the north window
which looks out over the [?], here
nearly a mile wide. The fresh wind
is hurrying over from the Bahamas,
ruffling the water out there and
making a great rustling among

inviting under those trees, but I
know a great deal better than to
