This memorandum of Agreement, by and between
Miller, Girton & Watters, of Des Moines, Iowa, of the
first part, and Charles E. Bessey, of Lincoln, Nebraska,
of the second part witnesseth:

The said Charles E. Bessey hereby agrees to prepare
for the said Miller, Girton & Watters, for their Hawkeye
Educational Series, a Botany suitable for use in
the common schools, and to reviseit every five years.

The said Miller, Girton & Watters hereby agree to publish
the aforesaid Botany, and pay said Charles E. Bessey
a royalty of five (5) per cent of the sales.

In case of a failure of the legislature of Iowa,
at its coming session, to adopt this book for use
in the schools of Iowa, then this contract
to be void.
