Death Recorded

From the Chancellor's office comes a report of the death of a staff member who has been on University retirement. It was moved by Regent Elliott, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, that this death be made a matter of record in these minutes and the University retirement payrolls adjusted accordingly.

Esther A. Meachem promotion

It was moved by Regent Greenberg, seconded by Regent Foote, motion put to vote and carried, that Esther A. Meacham, Assistant Professor of Home Economics, be promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Home Economics.

Accept research grants

It was moved by Regent Foote, seconded by Regent Elliott, motion put to vote and carried, directing acceptance of the following research grants as reported by Dean John C. Weaver, Research Administrator, under date of June 9, 1959:

Research Grants -- $81,550

$8,000 from Corn Industries Research Association through the University of Nebraska Foundation for research by Prof. R. M. Sandstedt of the Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition: Photomicrographic Studies of Starch. (Continuation)

$2,000 from National Soybean Crop Improvement Council through the University of Nebraska Foundation for research by Prof. B. R. Somerhalder of the Department of Agricultural Engineering: Water Usage of Irrigated Soybeans as Influenced by time and method of water application, plant population and variety.

$2,100 from Merck & Company through the University of Nebraska Foundation for research by Prof. T. W. Sullivan of the Department of Poultry Husbandry: The role of feed additives in Poultry Nutrition.

$1,500 from Campbell Soup Company through the University of Nebraska Foundation for research by Prof. J. O. Young of the Department of Horticulture and Forestry: Tomato Research.

$2,500 from Tennessee Valley Authority for research by Dr. R. M. Finley of the Department of Agricultural Economics: Determination of Least-Cost Fertilizer Mixes for Bulk Blenders.

$49,050 from Nebraska Wheat Commission for research under direction of Professors V. A. Johnson and J. W. Schmidt of the Department of Agronomy: Equip, staff and Operate a laboratory for study of wheat problems and evaluate the quality characteristics of new experimental wheat strains.

$10,000 from Teaching Film Custodians, Inc. for the support of conferences of research workers in the newer media of instruction. These conferences are to be directed by Prof. W. C. Meierhenry of the Department of School Administration.
