SULLIVAN IN LONDON.

He Pronounces to be as Successful as Buffalo Bills "Wild West."

LONDON, Nov. 9.- John L. Sullivan made his first public appearance in London in St. James hall tonight. Although prices were doubled, the hall was crowded and an enthusiastic reception was accorded the famous pugilist. Sullivan was introduced to the spectators by Jein Smith, England's champion. In a brief speech Sullivan expressed his thanks for the reception he met with and said he hoped Smith would best Kilrain. Smith also made a few remarks, saying he meant to best Kilrain and would do his best. Sullivan, the American champion, boxed with Ashton and three other leading pugilists, and althought he appeared slightly out of condition, his smartness pleased the critics. Smith being questioned as to his opinion of Sullivan's ability, said: "Sullivan is a good man, but I believe I can beat him." Sullivan in an interview said smith was shaped well, but he had expected to find him a bigger man. Sullivan was repeatedly applauded during the exhibition.
